Ossby Geo: Lightweight, foldable e-bike frame made from recycled materials breaks after just a few days of use

The European made Geo was originally supposed to weigh just 11 kilograms (24 pounds) in total, but came in at around 16 kg (35 pounds) when it was finally delivered to early Kickstarter backers in August of 2024. It's not just the award-winning folding design of this new e-bike from Spanish manufacturer Ossby that stands out amongst its peers of electric folding bikes but also the unusual features and the proposed sustainability of this lightweight city bike in 2024. Unfortunately, the promised aluminum-equivalent strength of the "composite frame" made from recycled materials disappoints - at least in my case. A way too short report of my personal experience with the European-made Ossby Geo.

How is this considered folding. yes it foldes, but could it fold even less and still brag about it?

E bikes are an overpriced joke. All the money goes into batteries and motors while the rest is junk.

Heh 1700 euros
If anyone wants actual sturdy and proven bicycle that looks similar to this one and actually folds to a into compact piece - check Strida bicycles, originally made by british designer then sold to Taiwan I think, but they are around 500 euros I believe, i have two for over 10 years, had no issues. Great brakes, trouble free belt drive, handling need to get used to but its a great city bike otherwise, even tho I used it in the forest as well with no issues.

They are a bit hard to find nowadays but if nothing else there are clones on aliexpress for like 200 euros, which probably work similarly good, that bike in the article is a bit of a joke

Thanks for the tip. Seems like Strida bikes are back but at a similar high price as the Ossby and without the motor ;) https://www.strida.nl/en/
