The Intel Lunar Lake processors are equipped with new integrated graphics adapters featuring second-generation Xe cores. We evaluated the performance and efficiency of the new Arc Graphics 140V, which is equipped with 8 Xe cores.

AMD Radeon 880M gives 81fps in GTV5 in High settings vs 61fps for Performance mode for Lunar Lake in this review and it is not even 890M.

So igpu from Lunar Lake is definitely slower than Zen5 igpu, which means the title of the article is obviously false for this declaration.

And taking into account the absolute loss in heavy multi-threaded tests of almost 1.5 times Zen5 and even Zen4 Phoenix, as has already been correctly noted in many reviews on the Internet - laptops with Lunar Lake and a limitation of built-in RAM of only 32 GB are suitable only for a very undemanding audience to performance.
 Moreover, as tests have shown in many reviews with a load above average when working on battery power, the gain in operating time is insignificant even compared to Zen4 Phoenix, not to mention Zen5.
 In fact, Lunar Lake is interesting only to those who do not even use intensive heavy surfing, but only to office workers using with software like text editors, etc., where the load is minimal. All truly independent and unpaid Intel reviews agree on one thing - Lunar Lake is another failure of Intel developer team with chips made by TSMC.

Like me on my mini PC or tablet. I still hope that passive tablets with Lunar Lake might have decent battery life - but we will have to wait and see...

I agree that LNL hype is a bit overstated from reviewers but it's objectively not a failure. the power efficiency and iGPU performance at 17w is very impressive and the benchmarks back that up. no Strip Point APU csn match LNL performance, efficiency, performance per watt at the same 17w or lower. that's just a fact. AMD does nearly the same performance at double the wattage. People need to stop being Intel haters and give them credit where credit is due.

I think you fail to understand what Lunar Lake is intended for.
It is a 8 core 8 threads CPU. The point was not to make it the fastest multithreaded beast, on the contrary.
It is to have a lightweight and efficient architecture.

It does not appeal for portable workstation, but for thin and light laptop... and, mind you, this is probably 95% of the world population needs :).

Yes, for the 5% of power user, this is not a chip for you.

But dont worry (or worry if you are an intel haters) Arrow Lake is around the corner (few more weeks), with much more cores, to fill in the gap for those in need of the biggest cinebench score.

This review is quite frustrating because the AMD 890M being compared isn't the full-power version listed in the benchmark results. They're comparing the Zenbook S16 I think, which is similar to the S14 but with an Intel chip. When you compare the S14 with Intel to the S16 with AMD, Intel clearly comes out on top,easy win on power consumption and a lot more fps. However, there's another model called the Vivobook that features the full 54W chip, capable of reaching up to 90W under heavy load. While that machine delivers higher FPS.
Here are the results for cyberpunk2077 ultra settings

140v zenbook s14.  33.1w.  24.3fps
890m vivobook s14. 58.6w.  25.3fps
890m zenbook s16.  49.2w.  20 fps

Thats why they say Intel wins.

Intel built-in graphics like Iris XE or ARC are way behind AMDs Radeon 780M or 890M.
If you want superior gaming and 3D performance go for AMD.

Why would you not test against the power unrestricted 890m equipped M5406WA (Asus S 14)...? Very strange.

what's with those gaming results? did nobody look at the 890m dota 2 fps and asked themselves why it is that low? it should be in the 80-90fps range. something is very wrong.

GTA5 is extremely CPU bound / very multithreaded tho, so idk if that's a good test for GPUs.

Interested in hearing your guys thoughts on the recent Geekerwan review that has now dropped. Despite which side we're on in terms of being biased towards, I think can all agree that Geekerwan is relatively objective and well respected among the tech community (especially when it comes to measuring low power performance) no?

From my point of view after watching their video:

It seems impressive compared to previous gen handhelds but I'm also quite impressed at just how efficient the AMD van gogh apu chip was for its time (considering it was designed 2019/2020 iirc?) and even now. I've no doubt that the next custom silicon true successor to this chip will be another significant leap even compared to lunar lake. If / whenever they eventually release it that is (playstation portable next gen / Xbox handheld / steam deck 2).

I do feel the Nvidia SoC inside the upcoming switch 2 will also be extremely efficient, probably even more so than lunar lake. But with Nintendo delaying it till another year + going on an emu suing spree, I think I've now lost any interest in supporting such a company.

Apples soon-to-be released M4, I've no doubt once it launches (next month?) will be #1 soc for performance per watt efficiency. But, not in the apple ecosystem, so not much interest in it for me.

I have to say: What a time to be alive with so many competing APUs! :P

This is certainly very exciting for APU/iGPU fans, considering the lack of competition in dgpu space...

fantastic job on the efficiency comparison. far more interesting however, would be an efficiency comparison at 15W across a few games (lunar lake vs strix point vs m3 vs snapdragon)
