Wirelessly charging an electric vehicle, by all means, seems like a distant dream considering the ineffeciency and glacial speeds associated with wireless charging. However, the meticulous researchers at ORNL beg to differ, having demonstrated a Porsche Taycan that boosts its charge level to 50% in just 10 minutes - wirelessly.

Porsche is so good at engineering I wish they used their tech to change the world for better. Instead they've chosen to be a luxury brand.

"... to 50%..." from what? 0%? 45%? Perhaps I miss something but nowhere in the entire article does it say what the initial charge level was, so the claim, and therefore the article, is pointless.

DJS is dumb

The whole point is 270kw PER HOUR
So a 100kw battery is charged in less than half hour..
Quit being stupid or educate yourself!

270KW/H !!! So for 4 cars, it is more than a 1MW !!! imagine, you almost need a nuclear power plant ! And I don't imagine the size of the cables.

Ahem, can we talk about the price ? and compare with a standard gas pump ?

Can I stay near the car while charging ? or inside the car ? completely nuts.

What happens when something gets wrong ? 270 KW/h !!

It's just a nice experiment in the lab.

Maybe I Missed Something

It specifically said this was the work of the Oak Ridge Boys, not Porsche. VW basically assisted them as it is their vehicle.

The size of a cable in a wireless charger? Do you not know what wireless means?

And many chargers use batteries to push power.

Cars are their own Faraday cages, it is why you aren't electrocuted if a car gets hit by lightning.

What goes wrong?

Quote"... to 50%..." from what
It sounds to me, based on the wording in the article, like it's a 50% increase in state of charge, e.g. 10%-60% or 25%-75%. I agree the title is confusing in any case.

Keep in mind @95% effieincy thats still wasted 13.5kw which is like 1-3 days worth of power... for a reasonably efficient houshold....

What you said made 0 sense. Power over time is energy, so not sure how you could waste 1-3 days worth of power...

The Taycann has 93.4kwh battery, so if 5% is wasted during recharging, your losses is 4.67kwh, which isn't that much considering a full charge
