According to a new report, Google will not be bringing any charging upgrades to its Pixel 7a successor. While the Pixel 8a was rumoured to support up to 27 W wired charging, it is now said to be topping out at 18 W 'fast' wired charging instead.

Really, the important question is whether it supports qi2 or not (which unfortunately it probably doesn't).

Using high wireless charge rates in a phone that doesn't support magnetic attachment to ensure proper alignment of the charging coils results in a ton of heat which destroys the battery (heck, even with magnetic alignment the phone will get quite hot with high wattage charging).

My advice to folks is only use wireless charging when it is most convenient, like in situations where you move your phone a on and off the charger a lot. Also, I would only use MagSafe or qi2. There is no use in say wireless charging your phone at night where you connect your phone to the charger and let it sit still for 8 hours.
