Like many other Apple products, all the focus is put on the hardware when it's only half the game - nobody straps a computer to their face to watch movies they need to re-buy or look at photos, it was predictably insufficient to keep buyers interested.
Where are the apps to make this great hardware shine?
Apple claims their have hundreds/thousands of "compatible" apps for the AVP, meaning a lot of iPad apps made compatible and that are 2D windows floating in 3D space. Not sure why I'd want to buy a $3500 device for that.
Otherwise, connect it to a Mac and enjoy a single 4k monitor space to move 2D windows around and air-type/click/move without any sort of precision that will result in frustration. And neckpain, eye strain, the whole discomfort.
Developers could make cool things for it, but the pool of AVP owners is so small, there's no point in putting in money and effort for something that won't bring in the dough.
They could try to make it more enticing for gaming, but Apple doesn't have a gaming strategy at all - other than pushing iOS games as the Arcade service.
Apple needs to act quickly to add a lot more to this thing if they want to avoid seeing the AVP become a sad joke.
