Orange Pi, known for having a comprehensive SBC lineup, is venturing into the gaming handheld market. The company's first offering in this segment is called Orange Pi Neo, which will soon debut with a Linux distro called Manjaro OS and the same AMD Ryzen 7 7840U APU that has become quite popular among handheld gaming devices.

While having more competition in the handheld gaming space is always a good thing, I'm having a difficult time seeing the point of this product.

So it is of similar hardware as to Valve & WIN powered handhelds but has a version of Linux instead.

Not having a WIN license could make it less expensive and arguably have better performance.

A small company might be able to come in at a lower price point then a Valve/Steam native device but that is rather doubtful as Valve/Steam have volume discounts on the BOM in their favor.

So possibly a Linux device for streaming games TO as well as ???

Does GOG distribute Linux games?

You can use Lutris to play games from gog on the steam deck and this hand held, because they're both running Linux.

This article is also wrong about a few things, which might help clear it up.

The Steam Deck, which IS the dominant handheld, runs Linux as well, but is also the weakest, spec-wise, of these handhelds. Many of the others are competing to be "the Deck killer", but often have some minor issues or are just too expensive to really make that work.

Deck has only 16GB of memory, this has 32. And the Deck screen is only 1280x800 (800p). The article said that the 1200p of this device was the same as Valve's machine, but it's a higher resolution.

FRANKLY, I think it's a waste. The higher resolution doesn't make as big of a difference on the smaller screen, but Steam Deck's lower resolution let's them get a lot better performance with their hardware and, most importantly to many, VERY good battery life out of their device.
