Hey Reboot was a great series with excellent animation. I certainly hope they can find a playing device for the tapes. I would love to watch it again or own copies.

Google: transfer d1 tapes

We can transfer D-1 tapes to DVD, .mp4, Apple ProRes, and other formats. Transfer between PAL and NTSC is also available. All transfers done in house.

Hi!  You *might* want to check with a YouTuber called "The 8-Bit Guy".  He has a video called "108 Rare and Bizarre Media Types", and if I'm not mistaken, he shows a D1 digital video cassette.  I don't know if he has a line on an actual drive, but it couldn't hurt to check.  I left a comment on his video linking to your article and asking him to get in touch.  Good Luck!

Try contacting MPE (motion picture enterprise) in Manhattan NYC. They Rent professional equipment and I think they can help you with a D1 deck.  I have worked with them over 25 years now.  I can advise you further as I am one of the top Engineers in the country and am certified to calibrate and repair these decks. Send a email to me and we can talk more.

IF they want this for free, think again. Keeping these old decks alive and maintaining them cost thousands of dollars and tons of time. Time on machines equal wear and tear and I doubt they have a clean room to do it in which will also increase wear and tear. As in ZERO dust clean room. Also condition of the tapes? How have they been stored. they may benefit from 2-4 years in 25% humidity and 60 degree temperature. I worked on a 3/4 inch archiving project involving over 10,000 tapes. It is a bear.  And yes, they will need an expert archivist. This is not the stuff for amateurs to monkey with.

Alphanumeric!
Don't. That upscale is terrible. He made it from the screwed up DVDs by Shout. If the documentary team gets what they need it will look so much better than that amateur work.
