Toyota beats Tesla as America's electric car brand despite selling a single model in the US

Besides a solid-state battery in the making, Toyota has a huge perception potential to win over affluent Americans when it comes to buying an EV from an automaker other than Tesla. It is seemingly positioned to enter the next leg of the EV race with vehicles that are both competitive and desired in the US.

Won't consider an EV unless it's Toyota or Honda. I don't care what specs, warranty, FSD "promises", tech other manufacturers have...

Still driving a 2000 Civic that works perfectly. Reliability is the single most important factor for me.

Agreed. I'd also like to add Nissan as well to the list. Had a 1995 Nissan Sentra for almost 20 years, that gave zero issues. Unfortunately, it was eventually stolen but had that not happened it most likely would've lasted as long as all the Honda's and Toyota's I've had.

It is so because our nearly "mind free" President has decreed it....l will buy the Tesla...it is quite frankly a better choice...and tested...any bugs Toyota will have garaunteed....its one of those " MY dad buys Buicks thing...totally misses the point of owning new tech

I've been following the beginning of Tesla. Toyota blew it. They had tried to work together and Toyota claimed that Tesla doesn't know what they are doing. Tesla has proven Toyota wrong in so many levels.

I highly doubt Toyota has solid state batteries. Toyota are not risk takers. Tesla has a better chance achieving solid state than Toyota.

People are genuinely dumb like this author. Rocket science is extremely hard. So hard it's obvious Toyota wouldn't be able to achieve it

Let that sink in for a moment. Toyota more than 15 years said Tesla has no clue what they are doing. In that 15 years Tesla has advanced along with space X.

This whole article states that Toyota has been copying Tesla from the beginning and they still can't get it right. This author truly believes Toyota will do a better job casting? For Christ sakes what do you think space X is doing? Since space X has been around, china and Russia still can't make reusable rockets and supposedly Elon's tech is all open sourced.

Toyota has their chance with Tesla and blew it.

If Toyota can orbit a car in space, that will be the only time I can see Toyota having a chance at exceeding Tesla.

Absurd how you called a win for Toyota based on a single survey. Let the money speaks for itself. I will happily agree with you when Toyota EV sales surpass Tesla

With all due respect, you're smoking crack if you somehow think Toyota is a Tesla-killer in the EV market segment, especially after taking one look at Toyota's hideously designed Murai where they wasted precious time and money pursuing the ridiculous hydrogen folly. Toyota should have been the EV market leader decades ago given their lead in hybrid.
