Reportedly, Microsoft only plans to offer the Surface Laptop Studio 2 with the Intel Core i7-13800H, a Raptor Lake-H processor that will pair with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 GPU. Up to 32 GB of RAM and 1 TB SSD is said to be heading to Microsoft's second-generation Surface Laptop Studio, as are more USB Type-C ports.

I know Microsoft wants to make the Surface Laptop Studio a productivity powerhouse, but I can certainly live without Core i7 and discreet GPU. As long as there's Thunderbolt 4 ports, I'm more than happy taking the Core i5 and use an eGPU with it.

I remember having the honor of using one of these for work for a brief time and found it to be a bit troublesome long term. First off, the design language will eventually cause components to rub away the finish on the device the more you switch orientations and the device as a whole had mediocre performance. I also would have preferred a flat bottom instead of the pedestal - I was surprised how much that interfered with daily usage in ways you don't think.

So they're going to refresh their product, just 1 month before Intel's new CPU... and put a 1yo CPU instead.

How stupid

They quite literally always do that with their whole Surface lineup. Not sure why but it's obviously intentional.

Once they used new CPUs and fell on their nose with firmware and drivers. Now Microsoft produces like a beginner: safe and slow.

As usual, Microsoft puts previous generation CPU and dont even offer AMD options anymore, which were better regarding battery life.

I have a hard time understanding Microsoft sometimes. I feel they love to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory with some of the business moves they make. They start out strong innovating something different only to gimp or cancel it.

Let's analyze the situation, they launch a product with a 1-year-old processor with RAM that only reaches DDR5 5200GH built at 10nm++++ compared to AMD ZEN 4 7040 Phoenix at 4nm with DDR5 at 6GH ram, it is honestly throwing away money and going 1 year behind of the competition.
The worst thing Microsoft can do is not give the freedom to choose alternatives and they would really understand what the public wants.
Now it remains to be seen at what price, knowing Intel and Nvidia, I imagine that it will be for some privileged people, but let them keep it.

I understand that this laptop is for productivity/creativity, but I don't see productivity here. Razer puts into the same volume Ryzen 9 and RTX 4090, while this Studio laptop will cost the same with just i7..
Ok, they want it to be cool and silent - then just add different performance modes so I could choose what's more important for me at the moment.
Another example is how they produce laptop 15 with more space, bigger and higher resolution screen, but still putting the same battery there as in laptop 13..
I love build quality of Surface devices, but they are always so dumb..
Only Surface Pro and Laptop 13 make some sense to exist. If you want to sell in amounts like Apple - then make A Product that people want and like. Ah, such a disappointment every year..
