An exclusive footage obtained via a California Public Records Act freedom of information request details how the 8-vehicle pileup that a Tesla Model S caused on San Francisco's Bay Bridge over Thanksgiving happened. The footage jibes with the driver's claims about illogical FSD behavior in the fast lane.

This is, I think, a major problem with this technology. It's not just the owner/driver of the Tesla, who voluntarily made the decision to be a guinea pig for FSD development, who's affected, but other drivers on the road who did not sign up for it. All these cars that were involved in the accident (and others), at best having their holiday ruined and having to deal with insurance and getting a replacement car, which may not be as good as the one they had, and at worst suffered injuries or fatalities, not to mention all the other people delayed by the resulting congestion, are dealing with these repercussions despite many/most of them not having Teslas themselves and not wanting to be beta testers for a company so it can make money at their expense. Perhaps it's time lawmakers require self-driving modes be limited to roads with minimal traffic, i.e. if the car's numerous sensors detect more than a couple cars around it, FSD will not activate or will deactivate if already engaged (obviously with sufficient warning).

Hmm deactivating a self driving mode automatically while in motion and with absolutely no verification that the driver is ready to retake control. What could go wrong?

Hmm, apparently you didn't read my post very thoroughly, despite even quoting it. Read that last bit again.

Autonomous driving relying on junk GPS navigation is prone to accidents like this.  GPS sucks so bad because of low resolution it cant distinguish which lane you're in.  China completed BDS navigation later than GPS, but is far superior in resolution and can even send short text messages.

I made several comments to this accident already. But I've notice that there was a flashing yellow light on the left hand side. I dont know when he wanted to change lane or while on FSD he had signaled to change lane but maybe that flashing yellow light may have caused the car to slow down coming to a stop just like all tesla cars on FSDA do when it notices a stoplight it will alert of the driver of approaching a stoplight and will brake but also says to accelerate if you want to proceed. That is what I think may have happened. I haven't driven out to the bridge to test my theory but that us what I think MAY have happened.

That was already brought up, including in the article itself, and people have tested by attempting to reproduce it in similar conditions. I don't know if they timed it exactly the same, so I'm not sure they've ruled the light out at this point, but so far it doesn't seem like that's what caused it. In one video trying to simulate it, the guy speculated that it seemed like a case where the driver wasn't paying attention, because if the FSD mode senses that, it will warn the driver that it's going to disengage and slow down, and it does so fairly quickly, and he said it seemed very similar to what happened in this accident.
