Sadly, those "many people" include A LOT of EU citizens. I live in Romania and, here, Russian-backed propaganda has been working for over a decade at full speed. Poland, as well. Extremist movements with nationalistic flavor, antivaxxers... and if we are unlucky enough, after the next elections, to be held in 2024, they will hold a majority and organize polls to exit EU/NATO. By then, the economic dive would have pushed even more people straight into the open arms of those movements that claim we should "take our country back" aaand... I don't even want to think about this. The certain fact is it's not just us. In most Eastern European countries the population is very divided and you don't even wanna know how many think that Ukraine should surrender, that it's their fault because this has started, and so on.
We are getting into politics more than we should here, sorry for my ramblings above. However, feel free to ask me more about the situation and I will do my best to enlighten you.
