Tesla has cancelled the Plaid+, the range-topping model of the Model S. However, it seems that Elon Musk broke the news on Twitter before Tesla could inform those who had ordered the 1,100 bhp car.

More range is not more range for longer trips. People want it so they can recharge less often. Statistics out of California show there are some people switching back to fuel based cars because charging is a hassle.

But Im sure they know that already but really cancelled the launch due to semi conductor shortages.

While I agree with your statement about more range is about charging less. Also for more buffer.

But the statistic you mentioned isn't due to that. Once you go electric, it is hard to go back to gas because of how inconvenient gas filling up is due to charging.

That said, the problem is that many EVs(that are not Tesla) are sold by franchised dealerships on commission and target quotas. What that means is that dealers don't care if the EV they sell you fits you or not. They just care about making the sale and hitting their targets. The statistic you mentioned said over 70% of those who switched back, did not have level 2 charging at home. But the dealers don't care about that and try to force a sale. Now that doesn't mean you need a level 2 charger at home to own an EV, if all you use the car for is a short daily commute and a grocery store even a level 1 charger will do. But for most people, especially in CA which is a large state, people tend to drive more. It also doesn't help that many manufacturers still make EVs with under 200 miles range. And the fact that the non-Tesla charging network is smaller.

But again, I do agree about seeing EVs with more range.
