AMD Ryzen 7 4800HS Debut: Asus Zephyrus G15 GA502IU Laptop Review

Even the slowest mobile Ryzen 7 H-series Renoir CPU is able outperform most laptops running on the latest 10th gen Core i7 Comet Lake-H CPU. Though raw CPU performance is excellent, the $1300 asking for price of the Zephyrus G15 is a bit high considering the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Max-Q GPU.

It is not 2242, it is 2280. See where the screw is, do not look at the white rectangle on the board, you can put only 2280 drive there without adapter.

i completly agree, especially with number two :) i find that problematic to kind of any Asus notebook

I have the 240 Hz, 2060 Max-Q version of this laptop and love it.  The blocked vents are certainly a controversial choice on ASUS' part.  I changed my power scheme to prevent turbo and keep the CPU at  a max of 2.9 MHz and now it runs cool and quiet all the time.  Game performance is still wonderful.

I have the old version from 2019 and wouldn't ever buy a updated version. This laptop design runs extremely hot even with 3rd party cooking. They released a laptop that bottlenecks itself because the cpu runs so hot and the fans they used run too slowly and don't cool enough. The laptop can barely run many games on low settings. Cpu just gets overheated and needs to stutter in game to cool down. 25-40 seconds in extreme cases. The main issue is the cheap plastic material it's made from. It holds a lot of heat and left burn marks on my legs/lap after some gaming on Warzone. I thought they would be able to fix the issues in the updated version with the liquid metal technology they developed but it seems to be the same issue of underwhelming heat management. This laptop can't even play AAA titles on low settings. I had to return red dead redemption because it couldn't handle it. I ended up buying a desktop for the same price of the new laptop I wanted to replace I don't game mobile anyway.

Why would ASUS use a fully aluminum chassis for the G14 version and then for the bigger machine, use plastic? That is a terrible decision.

The only other issue I have is ASUS's terrible service in North America. I had many products and the few times I needed service, it was a big hassle and long waits. Once ASUS sent me a replacement motherboard with no padding and all the ports at the back were bent. Then the next RMA took 2 months.

You know what is the least safe option when it comes to drivers? Using Radeon *and* Geforce drivers on the same machine. Oh wait, this thing has a Radeon iGPU. That comment is just awkward lol

I am thinking to purchase this same laptop but not for gaming, rather, video NLE production using BlackMagic's Davinci Resolve.  Do you feel this PC has sufficient performance and power for 4K @ 60fps video edits?

What about the heating problem?  I see that ASUS has put paper suppressor covers over the fans and the left and right side.  Are those removable?

Screen brightness, how many nits?  Does it cover a good percentage of the sRGB gamut?
