Why is that you donot test video play back capability. I would like to know the limitations of the media playback of the phone , for example can it handle 4 k video with h.264 codec or h.265 codec.

no band 20 at 800Mhz.... Ok is useless for europe. All chinese stores like Gearbest are selling phones that will have almost have the covereage without the band 20.

Hi author, great detailed article, just that , do you have the camera review for indoors?
Most of the Redmi are quite okay outdoors but the Redmi 2 definitely sucked in indoors, the Redmi 1S was actually okay

Guys - you have to get rid of the laptop checking habits. Paragraph about the camera is waaaaay too small. No indoor/low light performance description, nor samples.
The one about the screen is waaaay too big - it's not a laptop. It's a phone. Brightnes, colors and usability in bright light are important!

In the summary of the test you lost me completely:

We're a bit disappointed by the lack of a 1080p, NFC, USB Type-C, and a removable back cover

- you're talking about 5-incher bugdet with huge battery - these are all PROs, not CONs (well, there could be NFC in it, but still no biggie).
Having a huge battery like this with 720p screen makes it outstanding battery performer. Type-C connector, without USB3.0/3.1 transfers (it's a budget phone, wouldn't get fast version) makes it less useful. Type-C is not getting popular as quickly, as it should - I'm still not sure if it's a good thing to have. 4100mAh battery makes the openable back obsolete.

I agree that they are definitely nitpicking for such a cheap device, but you're crazy if you think these aren't cons. 1080p is the standard for all forms of video content on the Internet and brings with it optimizations that the (admittedly also popular) 720p doesn't have. Also, while more PPI may not matter to you, some people do view their phone from 4-5 inches where it makes a difference, including me. The phone will last a solid 2 days either way, but neither screen is going to extend it to 3 days so why not go for the higher resolution one?

The practicality of USB type-C is admittedly debatable, but I would argue that simply having the feature makes the phone more premium. It would be the cheapest phone ever to be released with a type-C port. Though it might be a hassle in the present, I don't think this is necessarily a con.

Personally, the most unfortunate omission is the non-removable back. Yes, the battery life is more than enough. However, what about the deterioration over several years of use? It will be impossible to replace the battery when it inevitably begins to die. You can argue that the phone is cheap, and while I agree with that I also agree that this is a feature that would be very much appreciated.

Happen to find out that the XIAOMI Redmi 3 has HD display, 2GB RAM and 13MP camera, it is all the same with latest released Bluboo Maya, but Maya's price is much lower, it only needs $69.99. If price should be concerned, which will you choose?

Xiaomi Redmi 3 is good budget smartphone for its 110$ (i have version 2/16Gb, Snapdragon 616 (use for more than 2 months, and there are no problems)). I bought in this store
