The Cryo-Tech cooling changes under the hood are exactly what the Alienware laptops needed. We can't imagine an Alienware laptop without vapor chamber cooling anymore based on what we're seeing on the latest Alienware m15 R3.

It's a thin and light gaming laptop, and Alienware is a brand that keeps its clocks high for performance - you're very limited in options under 50DB - either something thick, or a razer blade, which gimps performance

& The R2 they reviewed has the 2080MQ - which has a TDP of either 80W or 90W depending on the variant - their review doesn't specify which. So the R3's GPU can top out at either 25W or 35W more GPU power than the R2, while holding temps lower on average due to reduced CPU temps.

The 2070 and 2080MQ trade blows for performance - the 2080MQ is better in some games, and the 2070 wins in others. 2070 also has a much higher (over 60% faster base) clock speed than the 2080MQ.

thanks to notebookcheck i send to dell their review about R2 and i'm sure that this one of the reasons they decide to make a change

Great spec and 30°C cooler wow. That's groundbreaking.

My main concern would would be the battery. Dell has always sucked in this department. My AlienwareR3 from 3 yrs ago got a battery bloat issue, which they claimed was due to overcharging... I paid for an official dell replacement battery which had the same issue just out of it's pathetic 6mthns warranty with dell saying that it is not replaceable. Their cust. care situation was completely useless and their calls kept dropping (3 consec times I had tried to get through) each time they told me the battery replacement warranty was for 1yr and not six months the call would drop. Next time I tried I was on hold for 45mins... And then the call dropped.

TLDR

If it doesn't have an EXTERNAL battery that will not BLOAT up and potentially damage the entire housing of ur very very expensive and then beloved laptop then I would stay far away from this beast.

These are listed as stress tests, to force the systems into their worst-case states. Play on lower settings and you'll be fine.

I had to return my Alienware M15 R3 (rtx 2080 Super) this month, the CPU was constantly hitting 100c playing any game. Tried all fan speeds and even undervolting and that didn't help. The Alienware\Dell support kept telling me this was by design, even though clearly its not. They gave me full refund. I would recommend going for Razer instead who do a better job these days on balancing thermals with performance. My new Razer Blade 15 with 1660ti was half the price and similar performance on a 1080p laptop screen.

What are you talking about.
Last few AW laptops I tried all thermally throttled badly massively gimping performance . Razer consistently has top notch performance.

Wow, either the previous cooling was performing far below average or they've done something groundbreaking.

What a BS praise of the new model...

Even if we just ignore the fact that this is not apples to apples comparison between model (like performance in witcher where old model delivers 76.7 consistent average fps VS only 70.8 fps in new model), temperatures of *actual* laptop (not cpu/gpu which users really don't care if it delivers) during gaming are identical:
36.3 top and 36.6 °C bottom for R2 (36.45 average) and 35.8 and 37.6 °C for R3 (36.7 average).

But new model is at least 2db louder (...and again, we even ignore the fact that 'very professional' reviewer can't calibrate to standard 28db ambient noise level for proper comparison of new model). Considering logarithmic scale and inverse proportional law that means that with new model user should be sitting almost 26% further from laptop to perceive the same level of sound pressure as with the old model.

Different temperature targets for cpu/gpu, but same results or even worse.
That is not an improvement at any level. Seems like someone can't into numbers and logic.
