Xiaomi Mi 10 vs. Mi 10 Pro: Which version should you buy?

The cancellation of MWC 2020 and the coronavirus may have scuppered the release of the Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro, but that has not stopped Xiaomi from unveiling both in an online event. The Mi 10 Pro has stormed to the top of DxOMark too, but there are some key differences between it and the Mi 10. The Mi 10 has the edge over the Mi 10 Pro in some areas, too.

Unless you need to buy a new flagship phone every 6-12 months completely skipping this year's phones with the new Snapdragon 865 would easily be the best option for most people. The 5G modem will be useless to most people but there isn't a separate 4G modem so the new chip is going to drain the phone battery much faster than the Snapdragon 855 even with 4G service and also run much hotter--which Xiaomi clearly knows since they are also touting the cooling built into the new phones. This is going to be a bad year to buy any flagship Android phone thanks to the Snapdragon 865.  Since Huawei doesn't use Snapdragon chips they might have been the lone exception if not from the tech ban preventing them from including a Google based version of Android which makes their phones largely useless for consumers outside China.

Android phones with 4000+ mAh batteries today seem to last not much longer than Android phones with 1000 mAh batteries from 10 years ago. The improved energy efficiencies of hardware and software are more than offset by their increased power hunger and general bloatiness.

My provider already is currently rolling out 5G so I'm lucky for sure.

However based on the specs and design docs, no reason why the external modems 4G piece should consume more power if 5G is not in use, seems pure speculation ATM.
