Lenovo's Yoga Smart Tab sure is different from its brethren. Its somewhat odd design manages to incorporate plenty of advantages, such as two speakers and an integrated stand. Equipped with Android Pie the tablet focuses primarily on Google Assistant and its ambient mode but offers much more than that.

Can Google Assistant be used on it directly when the device screen is off/locked like you can for Lenovo Smart Clock?

I think you should update your review regarding the ability to play Netflix in HD. Yes the device is widevine L1 according to apps like DRM Info, but the Netflix app only certifies it as L3. Browsing through the Lenovo forums, there is currently no way to play Netflix in HD. Lenovo says it is Netflix's fault, and Netflix says they have no plans of adding this device to their HD list (according to the Lenovo forums). This inability to play Netflix in HD is also mentioned in the My Next Tablet youtube review for this device.
