The Elite in the business sector! The G2 now follows the G1. It is based on the meanwhile widely distributed Kaby Lake processors. A keyboard dock and active stylus still belong to the bundle. We present the elegant business companion that had to pass through our test course as usual in this test report.

The premium model based on Intel's Core i7-7600U easily surpasses 3000 Euros (3675 Euros / $4073 configured on Toshiba's website). However, this also includes 16 GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD.

Why Toshiba? Link takes to store.hp.com...

digitalguy

what a disappointment the battery life... surface last so much longer with the same battery... and wonder if the usb C charging is still proprietary.... my Elite G1 could only charge with HP chargers, no other UBS C, let alone power banks, tried everything before ending up selling because of that....

In future reviews can you perhaps give details on what type of active pen, what manufacturer's touchpad hardware and what touchpad drivers the laptops are using? Thanks.

Sebastian Bade

@ digitalguy: the battery life of the surface is longer because for the better power consumption. The HP Elite x2 1012 G2 is using much more power in any situations in our tests.

@ IK: there is a mistake because of our translation from the german review. The HP can ordered on HP's store not on Toshiba's website ;) I will fix it.
The following configuration: HP Elite x2 1012 G2, Core i7-7600U, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD, Stylus (1KE42AW#ABD) will cost more than 3000 Euros in germany.

@ dthrp: OK - I'll see what I can do in the future.

Thanks Sebastian, have you tested other chargers, like the macbook ones? Do they work with the USB C port?

Sebastian Bade

@ digitalguy: I had unfortunately not the possibility to test the device with another power supply.

Thank you for your review. Is there any quality issue for the speaker? Mine is much worse than iphone 6 or notebook bought 7 years before. :-\

Sebastian Bade

@ fungyukpan

Unfortunately, the speakers of the device are anything but good. I suspect that it is not exclusively due to your device. Alternatively, you only have the option to use external speakers.

Have had one myself for 2 months, and now battery dead after only 22 cycles. Without battery the device is useless as no Typ C accessory is recognized. Still waiting for 5 days on a battery replacement.

"The hardware supports H.265/HVEC (...)"
It is not overall true. It does not support HEVC 10 bit, which I recently discovered after buying it from off-lease.
