Title: Question of value
Post by: deemmy on August 29, 2012, 11:51:03
Hey guys, I am looking to get a new laptop but I'm not well versed in this area. Need advice, your opinions are very much welcome. I have a limited budget but would like a laptop with a dedicated graphics card (some gaming  ) and good CPU for all round performance. I have narrowed it down to two Acer laptops:

Acer Aspire 5755G
Intel® Core™ i5-2450M Dual Core Processor
15.6" HD Screen
Windows 7 Home Premium Edition 64-bit
4GB DDR3 RAM
500GB HDD
DVD Rewriter
Dedicated GT 630M Graphics
USB3 & HDMI

Price £450 and

Acer Aspire 5755G
2676G50Mnks
Intel® Core™ i7-2670QM Quad Core Processor
15.6" HD Screen
Windows 7 Home Premium Edition 64-bit
6GB RAM
500GB HDD
DVD Rewriter
Dedicated GT 630M 1GB Graphics
LX.RV402.018

Price: £540.00

As you can see there is a £90 difference but I'm not entirely sure which represents better value for money. What do you think?

PS: If you have any alternatives you think is better value don't hesitate.

Thanks in advance

For general "well performance", the speed of the Harddrive is most important. It would be the best, if you build in a SSD. Otherwise you have to take a look on the speed of the hdd. 7.200 R/min are much faster then only 5.400. But also louder an emit more heat.
If you don't want to render or do other really CPU-intensive jobs, you wont need an i7.
For games (not high end gaming), office and Internet an i5 is absolutly enough.
Better use the £90 for invenst in a fast SSD.
