On paper, the Legion Go is a great compromise. The bigger than average screen and detachable controllers could feasibly pull double duty as a gaming and highly portable productivity machine, negating the need to carry a handheld for play and a laptop for work. But the term jack of all trades, master of none, leaves little hope for the Legion Go 2.https://www.notebookcheck.net/I-swapped-my-Steam-Deck-for-a-Legion-Go-and-ended-up-hating-it-in-every-way-possible-and-no-it-wasn-t-Windows.985118.0.html
This has to be satire. The legion go is honestly the best handheld I have ever had the joy of using. Stuck some $3 sticky grips on the outside, attached the magnetic slides, this thing is perfect. The fps mode is phenomenal. You get everything that's good about a switch but made better. Playing MK1 on this is a blast, old school shooters no problem, emulation yes please. If this article isn't satire then I'm not even sure you've used the legion lol.
Your just being one of those who writes an article for the sake of it to be different so you get views, the only thing I would agree with in the article is that legion go is bulky to hold for long periods but everything else is absolute nonsense, steam deck is so inferior to legion go the OS in steam deck maybe better in certain ways but to imply that legion go is not good at all is astonishing, 4 years ago you couldn't even play any of the AAA games In handheld mode was not a thing now its achievable, anyone out there who is contemplating on getting a legion go or any handheld do it, you will not be disappointed, legion go for me as a game developer for one the largest gaming companies In the world it's a no brainer, gaming is awesome and the ability to play games like AC Shadows straight away, instead of waiting for ports is just great, and these handhelds will just get better and better. You will find most games that get released will utilise handhelds from now on, I remember the time I thought the OG game boy was awesome, now it's unbelievable

(disclaimer: I own dozen+ handhelds (Switch & Ally included) and a number of 13-14" laptops)
This might be the $64 question: carry 1 or 2 devices?
Generally most/many general purpose devices will function for +10hrs if they are not stressed or taxed. However tossing 'games' at a device that ether stress the iGPU or fires up a dGPU will put a large dent in battery life.
While my collection of laptops generally get sat - on my lap or a table in front of me, I'd agree that the larger "handhelds" are rather to large+heavy to be really 'handheld' for long and/or very portable for long.
I suppose it might be debatable if the dismal battery life is shorter than what a user can stand holding the devices or not. :)
(as owner of a few 'Atom' powered 'Netbooks' the very small form factor PC can or could be very popular)
Sure while there are those the adore & love their 'handheld pcs' for playing games generally my go bag gets packed with a 13-14" laptop with a truly portable 'Retro Handheld' device. :)
Obviously YMMV.
(the Ally & Switch nearly always get left at home)
I couldn't agree more. I find using the Steam Deck, even for short term work purposes, just "works". It's easy and gaming on the Deck bests the Legion Go where it counts most.
Uh yeah this is all bull. You can't hold it up for long periods of time??? Isn't that why the controllers are removable??? The steam deck is not better suited at the other tasks either, oh let's go to the other mode so I can do things I need to. The steam deck loses in every possible scenario, screen size, functionality and also it has a kickstand literally built into the back of it but can't get it to stand up? What a joke you are!
Hey author, this is the most irresponsible article. I maybe read about 4% of it. With that said, this is a gaming handheld with some interesting features. Its not a work device. It can be used as a tablet as a secondary function.
Horsepower wise the GO kills the steam deck. Its not even close. Not sure how you ranked anything the steam deck does above the go.
Also the controller is a little awkward for you, my hands are the standard size for an adult western male so its fine for me.
QuoteThe biggest drawback is that there is no way to prop it up.
[/i]
How did you miss the built-in kickstand?
Also beating able to hold each side of the controller in a different hand is awesome.
horribly written article with plenty of falsehoods and anecdotal experiences told as fact. the steam deck doesn't beat the LeGo on any measurable metric out there. that's a fact.
I think this must be an AI written article because none of it's true.
I gave my Steamdeck away to my nephew once I got a Legion Go and haven't looked back.
lmao what a joke of an article, the Legion Go is so much better and more versatile in every way compared to the Steam Deck
Man came here to read the comments because this article was the exact opposite of my of my experiences with the same swap, but looks like the comments agree with me.
The Legion Go is not perfect. Battery life could be better and yes the sides of the controllers are rigid but can be fixed with a $10 set of grips from Etsy.
I don't doubt it doesn't make a great laptop replacement, there are naturally going to be concessions in this form factor and size, but that's going to be true for any handheld this size.
Where this really loses the plot is not acknowledging what a great handheld gaming device it is. Yes Legion Space isn't awesome but it's workable, and just about everything within reason I've thrown at it has played and played well.
It's just such a bizarre article to seem to try to prop up the Steam Deck (which is a great but also very flawed device) like it somehow does any of this any better. This article feels like some weird axe to grind with Lenovo and I just don't get it.
You definitely haven't had the legion go then,it's one hell of a beast!! One of the best devices far as hand held!
What a load of nonsense.
I bought Asus Rog, Steamdeck and Legion Go and the only one I kept is the Legion. Controllers fit my hands better, game play is excellent, love the screen size and quality and it's the only one that really has any other utility for me beyond gaming.
If it's your true opinions, I respect it, someone likes and hates, totally personal preference. But to me it's funny that you complain a lot of things and one of them is not being able to sit on your lap, well, it's not designed to do so; I've never heard of people complaining it's so hard to drive a Ferrari in 10KM/H zone with fuel efficiency of 5L/100KM.

Some of these commenters are truly NPCs...
But I suppose I should accept that's what I get for pursuing mid-tier goods on the internet.
Clearly the writer had an agenda.
Legion go controls and experience are far superior to the steam deck and every other handheld on the market.
How much did steam pay you for this article?
Go is a much better device all around, it's like you're writing for the sake of knocking out an article that will get clicks because 99% of people will disagree.
The writer should have watched Russ of Retro Gaming Corp YouTube channel. He would have had all the info he needed to know about the Legion Go and it would've saved him some time and pocket money.
Would have been better off with the legion tab 3 or even your phone with a gamesir g8+ controller, BT KB, with apollo, artemis, and tailscale installed. 2560x1600 @ 165hz display, fantastic controller, free open source streaming software that blows steamlink and the like out of the water, and a nice secure vpn for a true remote desktop. Steamdeck is trash in comparison.
This writer is DEAD wrong. I've owned every handheld from the steam deck to the legion go,Asus, rogue, and even a switch. The legion go out performs them all. He's writing option more than facts. I did have to update all the drivers to make it run like butter but now it runs BG3 and Black myth wukong(Most triple a games) better than your average pc. If you dont like the built in controllers buy a better one (they work great for me though.)
Part of me wonders if the writer is just out of touch or not tech savvy enough to run a simple update.
If you're comparing steam deck to legion go, get the legion go.
I have both the steam deck and legion go, if I'm wanting to play a portable game, I'm picking up the legion go every time.
Dude this article sux

It's like somebody clicked the Legion Go bot button. Somebody even had the audacity to say that the SD does nothing better than the Go, laughable! SteamOS, well basically any of the Linux gaming focused builds run rings around the trash heap for gaming that is Windows and none of the pathetic add-ons that the other gaming handhelds use come close to fixing it. Having used a Go I think someone would have to be simple to think it feels better in the hand and the touchpads make the deck far more usable for all types of games. Absolute NPC's.
Glad there's a comment section. Guy who wrote it can have his opinions but is dead wrong. The Lego is awesome!!!
You forgot the rest of the quote, "jack of all trades, master of none but better then a master of one."
This review really upset the fan boys. I guess fan boys aren't that into their crappy legion or they would be playing it instead of reading reviews for a product they already own
