Title: OnePlus 13R review - The smartphone with amazing endurance and a surprising discrepancy
Post by: Redaktion on March 08, 2025, 18:12:08
Reality and wishful thinking sometimes diverge somewhat with the OnePlus 13R. Although the manufacturer advertises its top-of-the-range phone to feature "top performance", we couldn't always confirm this in our test. Nevertheless, the OnePlus 13's little brother offers many positive aspects that speak in favor of a purchase.

I was surprised that the article didn't include a OnePlus12r as a comparison point, since I suspect that would be a target market.  Performance ranges in your benches when added, but it looks like a wide variety of mostly upgrades from 12R-->13R.

Battery (Overall) 16%
Power (2%)
Stress test the Oneplus 12R actually does better in many benches.
Storage (~30%)
Website/HTML/Web : Astounding differences, ranging from 20- several hundred % better.
Geekbench 6.4: ~60%

So it seems like unless you are purposefully running your devices to their max, this is a decent choice, even over previous generation.

QuoteThe OLED display is based on an RG/BG sub-pixel matrix consisting of one red, one blue and one green light-emitting diode each.
No! One green each, and alternating red/blue every other.

You're so close. Please take it the rest of the way!

Keep in mind, performance is just one metric when it comes to purchasing decisions.

I'm pretty happy with my 12R that I bought a month or 2 just before the release of 13R at a discounted price (450).

While there are some nice quality of life improvements in this successor, namely flat display screen and telephoto lens.

There are also some negatives such as taking twice as long to charge compared to 12R due to the use of new battery tech and the lack of included charger brick.

I could even be fine with all this if they kept the price the same but where I'm at it's retailing for almost 700. At that price I don't think it's worth it. (Didn't wish to spend more than 500 on a phone anyway)

I think I will wait until the 14R or maybe even 15R until next upgrade. Hopefully by then android will have official Linux VM terminal support. Rpcs3 for Android will actually be stable and optimized by then. And while there is performance improvement with SD8G3, it will be even greater on the 8 Elite.

Just wish they improved the overall camera performance of the camera. It's not a hardware issue but more software / post processing. I tried gcamm but every port seems to crash for me. Think a dev wrote that OP has terrible camera API support and no longer recommended? My 5 year old pixel 4a takes better photos with it's single lens. That's kind of sad.

To be more specific on the issues, often images come out slightly out of focus and blurry if you're not completely stable and in ideal lighting conditions. The colours just don't have that feel that pixel cameras reproduce which I prefer. The low light performance could also be improved along with video.

Recommend do common PD protocol charging speed.
As proprietary adaptor isn't good for travel as it may not charge the other device like laptop or tablet.
The phone also may get charged from common powerbank also.

My Nord3 can do PD just 18W and drop down to 10W when battery has more than 50%.
It is so far apart from the advertised number.
