Title: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 Founders Edition Review: $999 card effectively makes the RX 7900 XTX redundant
Post by: Redaktion on January 29, 2025, 20:50:28
Sporting a new suave design that looks perfect in an SFF case, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 Founders Edition is finally here to unleash Blackwell's wrath on mainstream gamers. The RTX 5080 FE brings tangible improvements in compute, raster, and ray tracing along with access to new DLSS frame gen tech, for the same $1,000 MSRP, putting it at a significant advantage over the Radeon RX 7900 XTX... if you're able to snag one that is.

How does it compare against the 4080 super? The 4080 was a dogshit card that nvidia released to scam gamers. These card are replacing the super series, and by all accounts, the uplift seems to be extremely disappointing.

"Making $1,000 look like a bargain."

Desinformation.

The 5080 is nothing more than a 4080 Ti Super, it is a waste of silicon and a pathetic update after over 2 years. Testing shows it to be on average 1% faster at 1080p, and 4% faster at 1440p and 11% faster at 4K. RTing is only slightly improved too. See a total waste of money and it will be in extremely short supply and barely any cards will be near MSRP.

Claiming this makes the 7900XTX redundant is simply an idiotic comment by the reviewer.

Good luck finding a 5080 at the MSRP, the performance is very disappointing and the reliance on FG with noticeable artifacts at x3 or x4 is just sad for 1k GPU. "Making 7900XTX redundant" is an unnecessary title for this review. Stop pulling bs title like this next time please.

This review seems almost paid for. I'm not sure how notebookcheck misses the mark on the 5000 series that every other reviewer came too. It seemed pretty unanimous the 5080 is a dissapointing product along with the rest of the 5000 series. If anything the 7900xtx is a far better bargain because in many places it's on sale in the $800-$900 range. Most people do not care about raytracing because the 10+ year old games everyone plays dont even support it. This card will not be $1000 for a while. Nvidia's consistent short supply and near promotion of scalpers will keep this card a terrible value until the 5080 super or 6000 series comes out. If anything the 4080 super and 7900XTX make this card redundant.

Agreed, also there is so much discrepancies in this article I wonder if it's written by the same person. Single digits improvements is not a "significant advantage" over the 7900XTX.

And why we are pretending these two products are priced the same is beyond me. The 7900XTX is available for around 900 euros, while we have listings of the RTX5080 priced 1200 euros and up. That makes the 7900XTX actually a steal at 24GB VRAM, aside if you're looking at raytracing performance.

Rewrite the entire conclusion and title, please.

Correction: Under "Gaming performance", in "Performance Rating - Percent", RTX 4080 Super is 73.2 pts, RTX 4080 Founders in 57.2 pts. The RTX 4080 Super is not 28% faster than the RTX 4080.

This has proven most of our suspicions; 5070's "4090 Performance" is with DLSS & Frame Gen Combined.
How can you call a 5070 "4090 Performance" when the 5080's raw performance is noticeably slower than a 4090 lol..

Umm... obviously "creative writing"?

Both the title and the conclusion support a false narrative where the 5000 series cards out perform something or are a better value than something.

The AMD offerings offer a better performance & "bang for buck".

Personally, I won't be replacing my 3000 series cards anytime soon.

Well in the Netherlands and as far as I've read in the rest of the world you can't buy this card for MSRP or anywhere near it if you can buy it at all. And that's not changing anytime soon.

So maybe the headline should be: nvidia paper launches 5080 that isn't actually any faster than years old 7900XTX?

In my book this is a bad launch with a made up MSRP for a product that doesn't improve on the product it's replacing.

NVIDIA WATCH OUT!  AMD 9070xt is likely to be 5080 - 5% now.  They are adding 1% a month in performance, and the extra 2 months will be well spent (the 1% is in raster, the ray tracing code probably improves faster than raster ...)
