Title: AMD Ryzen AI Max Plus 395: Strix Halo processor spotted alongside new Asus ROG Flow Z13 variant
Post by: Redaktion on December 16, 2024, 19:28:17
The Strix Halo-based AMD Ryzen AI Max Plus 395 has been benchmarked on Geekbench again. Its single-core performance is more or less the same as Strix Point, but it offers a respectable 25% uplift over the last-gen Ryzen 9 7945HX in multicore.

Considering my few years old phone can record 8k without any problem, I wish new processors could handle converting 8K at reasonable fps...

Stop using Geekbench, it is a joke of a benchmark. Proof?

Example comparison between Ryzen 7945HX and M4 Pro 12-core (All benchmarks are native in both CPUs):

All other benchmarks (Cinebench 2024, Blender 3.3 Classroom, Cinebench R23) give Ryzen 7945HX higher performance:
Ryzen 7945HX: CB 2024=1828, Blender=138 (smaller is better), CB R23=34613 versus
M4 12-core:   CB 2024=1435, Blender=237 (smaller is better), CB R23=18569)
with an average of the three: 7945HX 62% better than M4 Pro 12-core.

Guess what Geekbench 6.3 gives: M4 Pro 12-core 14% higher than Ryzen 7945HX (M4: 20458 versus Ryzen:17892)!!

This means Geekbench gives 62% +14% =76% higher score to M4 than all the other 3 benchmarks !!!

What a joke.

Wow... the author must be hanging out on the wccftech forums or looking for few sensational lines for clickbait or does not seem to understand math very well. Let's see:

1 - "the Strix Halo lags behind the last gen Core i9-14900HX which averaged around 3016 in our test"..... The Strix Halo in a 13" notebook scored 96% of the *average* of the i9-14900HX - which appeared in 0 13" class notebooks. Further, without any idea of the standard deviation of that average, as long it is more than +/- 4% of that average, that means the Strix Halo actually matched or beat *some* i9-14900HX processors in GB single thread.

2 - "it get's absolutely bodied by Apple's M4 Pro." Author later goes on to state the M4 Pro scored 22,527 points in GB multi-thread. The Strix Halo processor scored 20,708 GB points in multi-core. So scoring 20,708/22,527 = 0.919 or almost 92% of the M4 Pro is "getting bodied."

Please stick to factual writing this site has in the past been known for. Either that or put things in context.

Just another sad clickbaity article on NBC. Not quite as bad as yesterday's pathetic headline about Krackan.

AMD supported hardware encoding of 8k since 2019. You simply need software that can utilize that hardware acceleration. Most never bothered because for phones, 8k has mostly been a gimmick.

Grotesque... Strix Halo with maximum specs (40 CUs) in a 13 inch, 1cm thick tablet... It's like they put in the the strongest hardware into the thinnest and smallest devices... Once again it looks like hardware manufacturers *deliberately* make the worst possible combinations.

This product can be a success if it is sold at a reasonable price, or the corresponding combinations are made that AMD Strix Halo has since within its configuration there are 3 options with less Zen5 CPU and less Zen 5c.
In any case, it is a worthy competitor of MINISFORUM V3 which was a worldwide success.
AMD is pushing hard because Mediatek + Nvidia is coming in 2025 with ARM and many companies are already collaborating with them and we will see many tablets and laptops with ARM in the future.
