Title: The iPhone 16 'Camera Control' shutter button is the best thing to happen to Android in years
Post by: Redaktion on September 11, 2024, 23:00:41
Apple may be copying a 15-year-old feature with the Camera Control button, but it's almost guaranteed that Samsung and its ilk will copy the feature. This is excellent news for anyone that wants a physical shutter button but doesn't feel like buying an iPhone or, god forbid, a Sony Xperia phone. Already, two Android brands have jumped on the trend, and the rest should follow shortly.

I think oppo announced their camera button implementation before Apple did...
Who's copying?

It's kinda funny how it's always "like clockwork" the Chinese.

I find that borderline racist.

Uhm... On almost ALL Android phones, you can use the volume control as a shutter button, and double tap the power button to launch the camera app. It's been this way for years.

Having a single purpose button would be silly, so this is more a spare assignable button which is fine, but hardly ground breaking.

In the end all manufacturers end up copying Sony. The mainstream consumers might not care, but the manufacturers know who has the best design.

Yes, I have both of those options enabled, but neither of those buttons is dual-stage, and the volume buttons are on entirely the wrong corner for them to make sense as a shutter button in most situations. The whole benefit of the shutter button location is that it's on the right bottom edge, opposite the camera lenses.

These camera buttons are coming and going on other phones for years, Apple was quite desperate to add at least something to distinguish 16PM from 15PM, because AI is english-only and "coming soon within a year".

It's not about copying, it's about the best implementation and as always Apple comes late but with the most advanced tech for a capture button.

Sony or Nokia's two stage button was good but Apple's implementation is next level.
