While it left Samsung behind in 2022, Xiaomi lost the Indian smartphone market crown to its South Korean rival last year. According to Canalys, Samsung shipped 7.6 million smartphones in India during last quarter of 2023 while Xiaomi was 400,000 units behind. This is not a market situation (and therefore the "news" is meaningless) for a reason known to everyone - India is deliberately blocking the production and sales of Chinese smartphones in India.
