Title: VanMoof: Very poor prospects for buyers and owners of e-bikes, high financial losses almost certain
Post by: Redaktion on December 16, 2023, 23:42:58
According to a recent report, things are going from bad to worse for customers of manufacturer VanMoof. Buyers or owners of an e-bike from the brand should thus have little expectation of refunds or repairs.

Until the Limiter is increased to at least 35kph worldwide, eBike sales will stagnate. Why are no Bike companies taking Governments to task on such a simple and sensible matter?

Because it's incredibly reckless to have people charging around on such vehicles without insurance. If you hit a person, animal or thing at 35kph it's not going to come out of it very well. If you are going to be allowed to drive vehicles at these speeds you should have to take a test, register it and get insurance.

35 kph is not that insane, it's the inertial mass and the fact that many e-bikes being handled like it's the end of the world are being rentals, not owned. I have my own non-electric MTB and I can hit 35 kph on flat roads easily (40-30-22T + 11-36T transmission). I went above 60 on a few occasions downhill, on public roads. Should I pay insurance? Should people who can run fast pay insurance? I agree that owners should be made responsible in a certain way, but not via insurance. Maybe some kind of road tax or something similar.

Except the EU already thought about it, restricted the motor to 25kph and determined no insurance required.

I guess people walking in front of bikes without looking is safe... Or letting animals loose is also fine? Yep blame the cyclists...

PS bikes without motors also travel around the same speed...
