MINISFORUM has shared an update about the state of its Microsoft Surface Pro competitor. Now called the MINISFORUM V3, the device will ship with an AMD Hawk Point APU set to 28 W, 16 GB or 32 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and at least a 50 Wh battery. Unfortunately, MINISFORUM has decided to make the device's SSD difficult to replace.https://www.notebookcheck.net/MINISFORUM-V3-launching-in-Q1-2024-with-AMD-Hawk-Point-28-W-APU-32-GB-LPDDR5-RAM-and-165-Hz-display.768432.0.html
If Minisforum's Quality Assurance does its thing right, then this thing will be a banger for sure.
Also hopefully AMD won't drop the ball with driver support and will have driver support for Hawk Point on day one, and not months after selling them.
This product will be a Best Seller all over the world, many people are waiting for a powerful alternative to the Surface.
AMD is betting fully on this product and will contribute all its knowledge and drivers for the next generation of iGPU RDNA 3.5, which they say will increase the contribution in artificial intelligence by 60%, being the first Tablet to have it.
Now we just have to know the final price that we all hope will be lower than the Surface.
Interesting...
While MS appears to be stuck/locked in with Team Blues power hungry i5/i7 offerings it is encouraging to see a OEM come out with an AMD powered 'surface beater' to mix things up!
Given the lower power consumption AND actually usable/decent iGPU the only thing I see missing here is USB4.
Minisforum has announced the EM780 five months ago. It's still nowhere to be seen. So yeah, this new product is appealing, but will it ever see the light of day? And if so, in Q1 2024, really?

Hawk Point may be a minor refresh of Phoenix boosting some of the clock speeds, but it technically doesn't exist yet.
When we get a competitor to the Surface Go 4 with an AMD CPU that weighs well under 1 kilogram, I'll be interested. I have a 13 inch laptop with 32G. I want something that isn't a tablet (sorry Apple) that is small, light and has a keyboard for travel. Right now, pickings from brand name vendors are nonexistent.
