Industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says Qualcomm has stopped developing test chips on Intel's 20A node. It will instead look at TSMC's N3E and Samsung Foundry's 3GAP nodes for future products. https://www.notebookcheck.net/Qualcomm-reportedly-ditches-Intel-20A-in-favour-of-TSMC-and-Samsung.739789.0.html
Ouch, that's a huge slap in the face for Gelsinger. They've been hyping 20A for a log time. Still we need more competition for TSMC especially and I hope they can actually deliver excellent nodes in the next few years.
20A was never meant to be an IFS (external) node so this rumor and the source are suspect. 20A is more of a half-stepping designed specifically for CPU's and not the entire SoC. If anyone believes this, I have a nice bridge for sale as well.
