Title: Apple scores win in China due to iPhone sales jump in December
Post by: Redaktion on January 09, 2020, 17:12:21
iPhone sales in China leapt to 3.18 million units in December, a year-over-year increase of 18.7%. While many analysts are excited about what this could mean for Apple's sales in China, it should be noted that October and November were terrible months for Chinese iPhone sales.

"While it's unclear exactly why iPhone sales shot up in December"
I mentioned this last month. Huawei's "251 incident" prompted marketplaces to demote Huawei's flagships putting Apple back in the spotlight, also the overall sentiment was probably against buying Huawei, and Huawei is the only major competitor in China with a major presence in Apple's price bracket, so if not Huawei who frames its own employee over whistleblowing on internal fraud and compensation it's agreed to, then it's back to Apple.

@S.Yu
Thanks for the details. I was not aware of this incident, but it makes sense that this would help Apple's sales. All the more reason for analysts to proceed with caution.
I've seen a few statements from investment analysts here in the States saying that this is fantastic news for Apple's China strategy, but I think it's a flash in the pan. What you're saying lends credence to that thought.

I see. I reckoned that editors are aware of what's on the site because NBC did report on this, after I sent a tip.
