There has always been an additional cost associated for portable devices tho. I don't think there has ever been a point in history where you could get a handheld with the same power as a desktop or console even 5 years later for similar price. The psp launched in like what, 2005? And it was weaker than PS2 from 2000. By the time psp launched you could likely get a PS2 cheaper even tho it's launch price was more, I think.
People paying for a portable experience know very well they're having to pay more, years later for a weaker experience clearly. But it's a question of priorities.
The ps5 is a very nice piece of kit I admit but for me it has zero utility. I rather have something with a screen attached and comes with a battery. I'm willing to pay 4x as much as a digital ps5, just to get a strix halo laptop which is basically 5 years late for the same performance but costs a lot more, just for the fact that it is a more mobile device.
