Hi there! Great to see you're sticking with Dell — they definitely have a solid reputation, especially for performance-oriented machines.

Since you're planning to use 3D modeling software and a 3D scanner, you're absolutely right to look for something with strong performance. You'll need a machine with a powerful CPU (preferably an Intel i7/i9 or AMD Ryzen 7/9), a dedicated GPU (like NVIDIA RTX 3060 or better), at least 16GB of RAM (32GB if possible), and fast SSD storage.

The Dell G15 is a strong choice for raw performance and is definitely capable of handling your 3D workflow. However, as you mentioned, it does lean on the bulkier side — similar to the G3 you had before. If portability is important, you might want to consider these alternatives:

Other Dell Options to Consider:
Dell XPS 15 or XPS 17

These are more premium and lighter than the G-series, with great displays and performance.

Some configurations come with RTX 4050/4060 GPUs — excellent for modeling and rendering.

Much better build quality and portability.

Dell Precision Series

These are workstation-grade laptops designed exactly for CAD, 3D modeling, and similar pro applications.

They're more expensive, but offer ISV certification for software like AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.

Models like the Precision 5470 are very powerful and portable.

Alienware x14/x16

Technically Dell's gaming brand, but they offer top-tier specs in a slimmer design.

The new models have improved thermals and are thinner than older gaming laptops.

Still heavier than XPS, but lighter than G15 and great for GPU-heavy tasks.

Final Thoughts:
If your workflow involves a lot of on-the-go scanning and model tweaking, balancing power and portability is definitely key. I'd suggest comparing the XPS 15 and the G15 side by side — you may find the XPS gives you everything you need without the bulk. If budget allows, Precision would be ideal for a professional workload.

Hope this helps, and best of luck choosing the right machine! Let us know what you end up getting

If you're looking for a balance between power and portability, I'd suggest looking at the Dell XPS 15 or Dell Precision 5000 series. The XPS 15 is known for being lightweight with powerful specs, including dedicated GPUs and high-end processors, which would handle your 3D tasks efficiently. The Precision series is designed specifically for professionals like yourself who need reliable performance for intensive tasks such as 3D modeling and scanning, and it offers workstation-level power in a relatively portable design.

I'd also recommend looking for at least 16GB of RAM (32GB if possible), a dedicated graphics card (NVIDIA RTX series would be ideal), and a high-quality display for better color accuracy when working with models. This should give you the right balance between power and portability.
Thank you for the reply.

Hello everyone, I need to update my computer recently due to work needs. I have bought Dell brands before, so I want to continue to buy this brand this time. But now due to work needs, facing the many series of products under Dell, I am caught in the vortex of choice barriers, so I would like to ask for your opinions here

Now due to work needs, I will use some 3D modeling software, and I will use 3D scanners to scan models and modify some models later. I use Revopoint's modifier

Therefore, the computer configuration requirements I want to buy are higher. I currently prefer G15, but considering the portability, I remember the bad memories of the heavy weight of the G3 I bought before. So I want to balance performance and lightness.

If anyone has used other series of products, I hope to give me some good suggestions, thank you very much.
