Google has agreed to pay a fine of $12.25 million for knowingly failing to report that its Fitbit Ionic smartwatch had a battery overheating defect that could cause severe burns to users. In total, 78 burn injuries were reported to the company from 2018 to 2020, before it finally recalled the product in March, 2022.
