I always thought the msft surface duo was the best design implementation. Shame that clean two separate panel design never caught on.

Ironically I've been saying that media and analysts have been waiting to say "If only Apple would make a folding phone... then it would be good... ignoring the reality that the main block to further acceptance is the high price - something Apple is not renowned for beating.

Apple has a bit of a 'hit' and 'miss' record with jumping into market segments.

On the good side often times in the past they 'polished up' some features & ideas to present something similar to what others were making but decidedly better than them.

Of course on the not-so-good side they have nose dived into outlandish features & cost that nobody in their right minds would ever consider.

Can Apple bring something new/unique to the 'foldable' sector? Will it 'reignite' interest?

Doubtful.

Frankly the foldables are merely a very costly gimic and Apple could only add to that cost.

A foldable iPad MIGHT be interesting for some folks, an iPhone that folded in the 'checkbook' like way (over the long edge rather than the short one) be interesting however I would not expect anything interesting/exciting out of Apple until they do some serious management swapping.

Apple is reportedly poised to make its entry into the foldable arena with a clamshell-styled foldable iPhone in 2026. A prominent analyst believes the product will play a major role in reigniting interest in foldables, driving market growth in 2026 and onwards.
