No need for blackout curtains. In my country we have had "exterior persianas" for decades, which are many times better than blackout curtains. They are catching in northern parts of Europe now too, and might catch on in the States at some point, who knows.

Anyway, the thing is... Normal people want to be able to watch the news, or an afternoon sitcom with natural light coming in, not stimulating the darkness of a cave, which is only done for watching movies, and sometimes not even then.

Any decent hotel will put a good TV and not some projector where you have to turn your room into a cave to watch anything.

Projectors are good for dark rooms, but contrast is terrible when there is light, so TVs will be on most people's homes.

Personally, if MicroLED manages to be similar to (or even out-do) OLED quality, all while giving better long-lasting life without burn-in... then it will be a very welcome technology IMO.

It's like 3D-TV.  When I was in Shenzhen recently, which is China's foremost high tech city, the hotel rooms stopped using large screen TVs instead provided viewers with a projector and wall screen.

I myself don't ever see me going back to TVs after I installed a projector in my bedroom.

Just DOA tech for the masses.
