In theory 256, part of the reason why we won't see ddr5 on these.

Quote from: Elias_40 on Yesterday at 18:11:56It would be a big mistake if AMD and motherboard manufacturers do not incorporate LPCAMM2 RAM upgrade option into laptop motherboards, as it is the future with lower consumption, better performance and lower temperatures, and the ability to be changed by the user himself. This means you can buy a laptop with 32GB and after 4-5 years you can upgrade it to 64GB of RAM. I hope minisforum, ACER, ASUS, MSI, etc. do something similar.
I think that their idea is for you to buy the 64 GB one directly, if that's what you will eventually need.

"if the new APUs are popular, we might also see some Strix Halo small form factor Mini PCs in the future."

There are only 2 reasons for it to not be popular: either it has terrible performance (which I doubt), or it will be extremely expensive (which would explain why start with workstations).

Ramping up production and software issues are things that can be fixed with time, but actually thinking of NOT selling then to mini-PC manufacturers seems like a very strange thing to do.

I think notebookcheck wants to target gamers, because they spend a lot of money? 40 uses of the word in the 9800x3d article. But it's a more technical crowd here, and topics are all over the map.

Quote from: Hotz on Yesterday at 12:26:19Even though they could use the modular CAMM2 RAM format, it looks like they won't. You get a one-sized-fixed package and have to stick with it until it breaks. No allowance to upgrade or change components yourself. It's always the same shitshow.
Intel is back to user-replaceable RAM next year so, luckily, there is still choice.

QuoteThe Strix Halo APUs also reportedly support LPDDR5X 8533 MT/s memory, with the memory size capped at 128 GB.

Machines with 128 GB memory will debut in Q2 2025, while devices with 32 and 64 GB are seemingly set for a Q1 2025 release.

Phrasing it like that makes it clear, it's only offered in specific configurations with specific amounts of RAM. Soldered RAM - not modular RAM. Even though they could use the modular CAMM2 RAM format, it looks like they won't. You get a one-sized-fixed package and have to stick with it until it breaks. No allowance to upgrade or change components yourself. It's always the same shitshow.

The upcoming AMD Strix Halo APUs are shaping up to be quite impressive with a powerful Zen 5 CPU and an RDNA 3.5 iGPU. Per the latest Strix Halo specs and performance leak from Moore's Law Is Dead, the flagship Strix Halo iGPU is powerful enough to go against the RTX 4070 laptop GPU. Additionally, the leaker reveals that the APUs will debut inside workstations in Q1 2025.
