Quote from: James Carrico on November 05, 2024, 15:55:59Apple has never done gaming well, and this is no exception.
But honestly, it's crazy they don't.
They're just leaving money on the table that they could easily capture.
An average gamer is far more knowledgeable about computers than an average Apple user. Apple would have a lot of trouble in using their marketing tactics to sell them mostly useless gimmicks and already existing stuff. An average gamer also wouldn't buy blatant lies and bs from Apple ("...new MacBooks come with the most powerful graphics in any computer.").

Oh I forgot to mention - good luck to Apple in selling 256 GB extra storage (from 256 to 512 GB) for $200 to any gamer out there when they can buy a 2 TB SSD - with DRAM and Phison controller - for less than that.

Quote from: nemo on November 04, 2024, 18:24:00Apple is already working on implementing proton like system for themself so you can play any x86 pc game.

They've worked on this since 2020 and before.  Guess what, no serious gamer cares as it is garbage.

Sure someone out there will because if some person would already have a mac and plays pc games he could then play on his mac without having to use another computer with windos or linux...

i would never buy anything apple so i dont care either way.

But honestly, it's crazy they don't.
They're just leaving money on the table that they could easily capture. They have the resources to develop a competitive gaming platform, they just don't have the vision.
Maybe the next CEO will get it

Lmao.. yeah ok.. on what planet is this a PS5 Pro alternative? The main thing here is all about the games. I think Sony said 8500 games are available to run on the Pro.. so there's this many that can run flawlessly on a Mac? I guess technically it is an alternative machine, in terms of it can run an OS which the ps5 Pro cannot, but that's why I think most people would use a Mac for anyways and not gaming. Then therefore it's also technically not a Ps5 Pro alternative..

"PS5 Pro Game Boost and backwards compatibility
The PS5 Pro console can play over 8,500 PS4® games. With the PS5 Pro version of the Game Boost feature, you can enjoy faster and smoother frame rates in some of the PS4 and PS5 console's greatest games."

Quote from: M-FAIL on November 04, 2024, 19:46:42This has to be a joke. any mini gaming PC with a laptop RTX 3060 and above absolutely smokes the m4 Mac mini. and it's cheaper with only a minimal space imposition (mini itx would do just fine).
As much as I hate to say this but... you are wrong.
Tell me which miniPC with the size and power consumption of the Mac Mini has the CPU and GPU performance.
I can tell you: none. Maybe the HX99G comes slightly close, but it's definitely bigger and consumes more power.

That said, this Mac Mini can't play games because there are barely any games compatible with OS X, let alone Apple Silicon, reason why people who game will still chose a device that actually has games available.

But that does not mean that the Mac Mini isn't a power-horse in an extremely small package. It just means that it can't be used for everything gamers want.

Not Apple, nor anybody else with a brain in their head, would promote any Mac as a "PS5 Pro alternative." The only people that insane are apparently the notebookcheck writers. Please stop with the nonsense.

Now it just needs games. Not only the few newer AAA titles that Apple has begged companies to make Apple Silicon compatible, but also compatibility with older games. As much as I love Macs they are the worst choice for gaming especially if you still play older titles. CrossOver, Parallels, VMware Fusion, etc. are all a**. The only hope of bridging the gap is Asahi Linux.

Apple is shipping early Mac mini units to customers. Ahead of their arrival, the company has decided to advertise its new mini-PC in a way it has not with previous models as part of its new gaming offensive.
