I put the sole entire blame on Steam-Valve defense force & fangirls. Crying, bawling their eyes out and having tantrums because epic games decided to follow the very same venture as them and created their own store front to sell games through.

Like who gives a sheet, all digital distribution channels are as bad as each other. The battle for this was lost long ago. We never should of transitioned away from physical distribution in the first place. And if I were to blame a single company that had the biggest impact in eroding this it'd certainly be Valve. They were the O.G. pioneers at it which showed others it was a viable profitable business model.

But alas I'm sure I'll have another steam valve defense force fan girl respond back soon enough telling me otherwise about how Gabe is the second coming of Christ.

Transferability is a condition of the licence, as licensor you can absolutely grant non-transferable licences if it serves your purposes.

GOG's responses to Steam feels sad at times. It's like watching Samsung making sarcastic videos as a response to Apple's embarassing misteps. GOG and Samsung will always be behind the companies they are taking jabs at.
I like GOG's offline installers and their support for old games to work on modern machines but ever since Steam introduced regional pricing I haven't a single game from them. Steam has cheaper and far more games than GOG.
Big companies having to come honest about critical things should be commeneded. Smaller companies nipping at the heels of giant who werw forced to be humble...that's just bad.

it was the government, specifically california, that required steam to change the wording.
