This is not tough solar watch, it has replaceable battery with 10Y lifetime under following conditions:

QuoteBattery life: Approximately 10 years

Conditions:

Illumination: 1.5 seconds/day

Alarm: 10 seconds/day

It can last longer, it can last shorter.

They can and they did, amongst many examples here is one: https://imgur.com/a/kJRcutL

It has literally all necessary functions sans Bluetooth (not necessary but handy to have): https://shockbase.org/watches/watch_dyn.php?model=GW-5000U-1&subseries=GW-5000&series=5000

I own a number of Casio's MUCH OLDER "G-Shock" series that are not only solar powered but 'autoset' via shortwave radio signals every night.

These watches likely will last 'forever' or least until the rechargable element and/or silicon migration/degration kills the electronics.

Given that my examples are >20 YEARS OLD TODAY, why is it that Casio can't seem to make a compelling MODERN watch?

The Casio G-SHOCK GD010 and GA010 series watches have arrived. The models have different displays but are both expected to run for up to 10 years on a single battery. Another recent addition to the brand's range is the G-STEEL GM2110 watch series, with a metal bezel and strap.
