Motherboards for AMD processors are always 30-35% more expensive than Intel boards with the same quality level and feature set.

To AMD's shame - most even relatively expensive mid-range boards from all manufacturers do not even have an optical SPDIF output and an internal connector for connecting a rear bar with such an output, unlike Intel boards.

This alone immediately reduces interest in buying desktop boards with AMD.

As a result, the only thing AMD can attract buyers with is lower electricity bills (and a potentially cheaper cooling system) with the same performance as the gluttonous Intel chips, but this is an insignificant factor in many countries...

The 8-9 generations give little to the buyer of AMD platforms, for which it would make sense to spend a lot of money...

Quote from: Mr Majestyk on August 23, 2024, 23:47:38Prices need to be slashed much further.

Prices for Zen 5 should be:
9600X $179
9700X $269
9900X $449
9950X $549

I agree but lol, we just started to see this kind of pricing for zen 4 parts after 12 months. So I doubt AMD is under any pressure considering Intel's current situation and the fact that they probably still have stockpiles of unsold zen 4 CPUs they wish to sell first, so they're not in any hurry. Remember, AMDs core market focus is selling server cpus to data center. They don't really care about much else (besides consoles). Much like Nvidia doesn't care anymore about desktop GPUs because AI.

Prices need to be slashed much further. 6 core cpu in late 2024 is a joke at anything more than $179. Intel will soon announce Ultra 245K with  6P + 8E for about $320 which any sane person would take in a heartbeat over the 9700K let alone 9600K.

One might say "price crush", I say "price gets closer to normal". :)

After seemingly failing to garner a strong response from the community, AMD's latest Ryzen 9000 CPUs are reportedly already getting discounted in Germany. The discounted street prices are allegedly up to 12% lower than RRP and affect all four CPUs to varying degrees.
