No sports car is worth 1/3 of the money either. But they are bought by those who have money and know why they need it.

Even the prices of laptops, the main subject of this site, clearly show a deliberate overestimation of the components in them by up to 3-4 times (especially RAM and SSD), but why is it that few people care, despite the obvious - in retail these components (and even 4k screens) are several times cheaper and with a guarantee several times higher for the same thing... That's a good point, but such a markup is outlandish for just a doubling of size.

I expect this to drop significantly in 1-2 months. If you've been hitting a 4TB limit and it's important for you, yeah, you'll pay.

Guess I am coming from a place of having a hard time filling 20% of a 512G SSD and a 128G on my phone. Most data for me is cloud based and not worth upgrading.

It has 2 times more recording resource and in notebooks the quantity of M.2 is extremely limited, if not 1 slot at all. Thus, the exclusive is that it is 8 TB, and not 2 by 4 for which you will need 2 M.2 slots or 4x2 TB, for which you will need 4 M.2 slots, which are now not even in MSI Titan...

Yes. The 4TB version is regularily sold at $250-$300. Based on the current prices of 4TB SSDs, I expected an 8TB SSD to cost between $500 and at most $600. But $899! WD is mental!

The 4 TB is roughly 1/4 the price.
