Which were in short supply and remain so. So the task is impossible.

The ratio of laptop production with Intel vs AMD is 5:1. But in reality (on the shelves) everything is even worse.

Buying a business laptop with the right keyboard (full numpad), a normal set of ports and the right power plug, with the same 7840U, and even at an adequate price for the most banal 32GB/2TB configuration is a practically impossible task in 2024.

Hawk Point is an incremental upgrade to former Phoenix point, the only change being more powerful NPU.
Strix point is the real upgrade that comes after 12 months.

I would welcome more often releases with incremental improvements over time (the as is AMD approach), rather than waiting for a new release for years, even though it was significant.

The update cycle is a bit too fast for my taste. It's like every 6 months a new APU comes out:

August 2023 Phoenix Point
January 2024 Hawk Point
August 2024 Strix Point
...

Doesn't feel good if you want to buy something and feel "up-to-date" or "supported" for at least 1-2 years.

P.S.: not that the slow update cycle of Intel is better... but eventually it seems like each company is extremist in its own way...

After having seen different tests of the new AMD ZEN 5 and its new NPU, I am one of those who will wait for these new laptops since the improvements that AMD has made are much greater than those expected from Intel and I am not gamer, I don't need a dedicated graphics card, just a light ultrabook with CPU + NPU + iGPU power

Unfortunately, unlike Zen 5 desktop, I don't think strix point is gonna be cheaper until another 6 more months. Most of the laptops launching initially come with Nvidia dGPUs that'll also no doubt inevitably charge that additional premier tax/margin for the privilege.

I'd say lunar lake will save us but seeing as lol how little SDXE has changed the landscape of laptop pricing thus far, I'm starting to have my doubts there as well.

creating more climate marketing change trash...when already the 7840hs does about the same job as the 8845hs, just with slightly higher tdp and without npu

Golden Pig Upgrade, a well-known Weibo tipster, reports that AMD is getting ready to launch a new Hawk Point APU. It will reportedly be called the Ryzen 7 8745HS, and the processor is said to be identical to the Ryzen 7 8845HS but without the XDNA NPU, potentially making it offer a better value than the identical chip.
