^ Your response presents some valid points on AMD's limited laptop presence and market strategy but overstates AMD's lack of interest and implies an exaggerated future decline.

Quote from: usacomputer on July 09, 2024, 14:13:10I don't understand why LG hasn't released an ultrabook with AMD for almost 4 years when it has been shown that AMD has been superior to Intel in these last 4 years.
As I explained earlier (and Intel recently proved that I am right) - AMD does not care about the x86 market and especially laptops - they did not even try to expand Zen4 production several times from their small market share, while Intel has just found a place on TSMC's "very busy conveyors for years to come" for its mass Lunar Lake.

It is not surprising that with such a clearly non-market approach of AMD's management, the ratio of processors and SoC for laptops from Intel vs AMD was and is 5:1. Where can large manufacturers get cheap mass batches of SoC, if the ratio is not 5:1 in favor of AMD, but in favor of Intel, given that they are outsiders? If earlier this was explained by the fact that AMD does not have its own factories, and Intel does, now Intel cannot produce Lunar Lake at its factories, which means that AMD has no problem with expanding production, given the real desire of AMD's management, and there is none. There is a direct reluctance to increase its market share in x86.

Therefore, AMD essentially releases paper, essentially fake processors with great fanfare, which in reality are not in mass models.

Just look at NB, there is only 1 (one) review of a model with R5 7640U, although this should be the most mass AMD SoC in 2023!

If there were tens of millions of deliveries, there would be laptops with LG on Zen4 Phoenix. But in reality, even Lenovo models with it are in a wild deficit everywhere.

And now AMD is releasing the same paper Zen5, which will go into real mass batches at best in 2026. While Lunar Lake will already be sold in bulk on "3/4 nm" from TSMC. What are AMD's chances now? None - the value of their shares will fall in the long term, although a local jump (for the release of "smart and big" money) is not excluded. It's all over for AMD, their second "golden age" is behind them since 2015...

I would never buy these Intel Core Ultra 7 155H that are still manufactured at 7nm while waiting for the new generation.
As they say in other comments, it is a shame that the numeric keyboard is not complete and has enough space.

A completely damaged and therefore absolutely useless numpad for fast touch typing and navigation ruins everything, just like the flickering and wildly glare AMOLED.

All Intel processors here should be the 7840U with much higher performance (compare its 12k points in the AIDA64 Ray-Trace64 test and the pitiful, less than 4k points of the 155H).

Memory latency is simply monstrous, it is impossible to replace it.

The laptop immediately turns on the coolers and does not turn them off, due to the low weight of the radiators and the high consumption of Intel processors.

In addition, that useless 3050, which even in games, when TDP is clamped to normal (for a laptop) values, turns into a pathetic runt.

In fact, this is a completely pointless model to buy.

LG needs to switch to AMD processors and stop creating Frankensteins in a 16" case with a keyboard that is broken in terms of numpad, and make a classic one - there is enough space there. And return to semi-matte, flicker-free IPS with a contrast of 1500: 1+ - this is generally more than enough for any purpose except for movies in complete darkness, but it is unlikely that the owner will watch movies on such a laptop in complete darkness.

LG's Gram laptops are slim and lightweight. Under the name LG Gram Pro, the manufacturer is now launching a laptop to top it all off. It is even slimmer, more lightweight and has even more power at its disposal.
