VR will take off when you can get a good headset for $50, finger tracking for $20, and a VR treadmill for $100

Quote from: George on June 14, 2024, 22:43:53there is NO WAY there can be anywhere near 171 million VR users.

There probably is over 171 million VR headsets out there, of course hard to say if they are actual users or not and majority of them is likely Google Cardboard (cut out or 3d printed plastic)

Quote from: EvolvedAnt on June 10, 2024, 01:08:19and is estimated at over 171 million people with VR headsets world wide.

For context, that is 30 million more than the number of people who own the Nintendo Switch world wide.

It's not a niche market, and hasn't been one since 2016 8 years ago.

Source on 171 million VR users? I thought the Quest sales (1, 2, and 3) total to about 20 million or so.

sigh - silly fanboi

While META mostly GAVE AWAY ~20 million headsets (all sold at a loss) AND they are the market leader in sales, there is NO WAY there can be anywhere near 171 million VR users.

Forgetting for the moment that MANY ACTUAL users own more than ONE headset. :)

I own THREE different models from different OEM's.

YES, VR IS a "nitch" market.

This is the funniest and lamest article.  It must be written by some 10 year old sony fanboy.... its 2024... having a wired headset belongs to 8 Years ago.... the meta quest 3 is simply the best headset for standalone VR gaming and PC gaming... plus has an amazing ecosystem.. something Sony completely forgot about. What a silly article

I wanted to sell my PSVR2 set due to small library of truly good AAA games, but these news have stopped me from selling the set. It would be awesome to be able to use PSVR2 on PC.

This article forgets that you don't need cables with the quest 3 so that's a whole expense less. Psvr2 headset is so heavily neutered for pc for the same experience the quest 3 would be the best cost/quality alternative. Can we also get a writer or ai setup next time that actually knows something about vr?

I keep seeing misinformation being spread by notebook.. you guys really need to step up your quality check standards. Ppl that don't know any better might take this as gospel and make a purchase only to be very disappointed when they finally connect it to a pc!

This article is so full of false claims and misinformation, it might very well have been written by Sony's marketing dept.

Shame on whatever shill wrote it.

Please stop calling VR a 'niche market', this has been proven wrong time and time again through actual data, trends and market research. People have been repeating this false narrative since 2017, even though every year the number of people using VR grows extremely fast, and is estimated at over 171 million people with VR headsets world wide.

For context, that is 30 million more than the number of people who own the Nintendo Switch world wide.

It's not a niche market, and hasn't been one since 2016 8 years ago.

The article brings up an interesting twist -

Instead of simply making the PSVR headset actually USEFUL as there is little to NOTHING on the PS worth purchasing it for, the concept/idea that the combined VR2-Headset+VR2-PC-Adapter might be a worthwhile entry point into PCVR gaming.

Forgetting for the moment that decent/quality USB4 cables can be bought at a FRACTION of the cost of a 'Meta' (official) product and the Q2 actually does a fairly decent (wired or wireless) VR experience (and VERY likely could be purchased at a HUGE discount now that the Q3 is released) the Sony PC solution MIGHT be interesting for those that don't already own VR hardware.

Sadly VR gaming will continue to be a 'nitch market' until such time as the game engine makers simply create a SW switch to turn it on for all 'first person' perspective games.

The Playstation VR2 PC adapter makes the Playstation VR 2 headset compatible with PC and Steam VR. The hardware spec gives players an experience that is on par with the Valve Index and arguably better than the Meta Quest 3 for a significantly cheaper price.
