@SMH there are multiple new storage system types, it's just there's a problem with it, they are usually more expensive, and then their adaptability, ie devices that can read them are limited.
SD cards are universal, yes it's one of the most unreliable media to store storage on, with its only strength being not susceptible to being damaged by water.
It's also cheap to put more storage on, and basically, disposable.

Also, Xperia isn't "overpriced" as what most people, including you, think. In my country (Malaysia), it's actually cheaper than the Galaxy and the iPhone.
