Shame some of these great devices get borderline bricked whenever they feel like it. Same with a lot of those online only games even when they're singleplayer.

Nintendo has officially announced the impending termination of online services for its 3DS and Wii U systems, effective after April 8th at 4 pm PDT. However, the company states that software updates and purchased items will continue to be available for download, atleast for the time being.
