Interesting. For something like 6 years now, I was under the impression that DSLRs were going mirrorless. So what are the high end mirrorless cameras called? Point and shoot? Because they seem to offer the same level of options, with exception to having much better EV tech these days (not so much a decade ago).
Technically the name would be DSLM, Digital Single-Lens Mirrorless cameras. The mirror that is used for the viewfinder that sits in front of the sensor is the Reflex(reflection) of the Digital Single-Lens Reflex cameras.
The cameras that use film instead would just be an SLR camera, skip the digital. But they can't be mirrorless because the light shouldn't hit the film until the shutter is pressed down so a mirror is used to reflect the view into the viewfinder hence doing the reflex part.
