It is impossible to insert double-sided SSDs into almost all laptops, including "gaming" ones, and this is especially dangerous in the case of hot versions.

WD Black SN850X 4TB is dual sided while the Samsung 990 Pro 4TB is single sided.  Some laptops only support single-sided devices so I wouldn't say they are direct competitors.
