For every purpose other than machine learning, I agree. For machine learning using the Nvidia CUDA, CuDNN and TensorRT libraries and without need for more than 12GB, the generational improvement and efficiency of the 4070 are so good though to justify its MSRP.

However, the high MSRP also means that I will upgrade every ca. 6 ~ 12 years rather than every 2 ~ 4 years. If Nvidia wanted to maximise its long-term income, a $449 MSRP would be more appropriate. Stupid Nvidia tries to pull an Apple, gambling that endusers would update frequently.

Still wouldn't buy either card. The 7800XT is the 6700XT successor, not 6800XT as it only beats that card by a small amount. 4070 is the real 3060 replacement, while 4060 (Ti) is the 3050 (Ti) replacement. 4070 with 12GB should be $449 at most.

Still 200 $/€ too expensive, but hey, at least this time it's going on the right direction!
