It seems like a great success to me and I'm sure it will sell much more than the Surfaces that have Intel, which heats up much more and consumes more energy since Intel chips are manufactured at 10nm+++++ and AMD chips at 4nm.
Another big advantage is the AMD iGPU called RDNA 3 is twice as powerful as the Intel Xe IRIS

Ugh. Typo on CPU package power. Was 4.5 W after fresh from sleep. So rest of system (screen, Wi-Fi, SSD) was 3.5 W or so. Also, I changed out the SSD from factory to SK Hynix P31 Gold. Very noticeable difference on battery life. Even from P41 Platinum (0.7 W) to Gold is > 0.5 W difference at idle and when in use.

PST77... would have to agree there is probably something wrong based upon your previous AMD laptop experience as long as it is within the same brand. For example, compare laptop idle powers for the same processor & segment (e.g., gamin) like a Lenovo Pro 5/Slim 7 with corresponding Asus M16/G16. Asus much better idle/Wi-Fi time for same Ryzen/GPU combo. Regardless, the fact that the 6800U EliteBook G9 lasted longer than your G10 even though the 7940HS is on a new node does suggest either HP dropped the ball or your chip has some probs or it is over-marketed or the new version of Windows is driving consumption up.

I did some investigating with HWMonitor yesterday. With 'fresh from sleep', my idle times (no active Wi-Fi connection but Wi-Fi on and brightness 3 steps from lowest), my idle time was about 11 hours with CPU package at 4.0 W. I have 86 W-hr battery so total draw is about 8 W. Killing all unnecessary programs and tasks increased idle time to over 1100 minutes and CPU package power dropped to about 0.7 W. Of the programs, killing MS Mail and Calendar dropped CPU Package Power consumption by about 2 W.

hahahaha I laugh for not crying when a Zen 4 7040 Phoenix consumes much less than intel 12gen and 13gen and of course the 14gen that hasn't come out yet.
It has been shown here in Notebookcheck that AMD processors at 4nm compared to itnel at 10nm++++++ consume less in the same laptop and I have not seen any media that denies it.
On the Table it seems wonderful to me and I am sure that with the Zen 4 7040 Phoenix processor it will become a Best Seller and I am a possible buyer because I have been looking for something similar for a long time and all there is is Intel whose battery does not last even 4 hours. I work against this AMD Phoenix that will last 8 hours twice as long.

G10 tested here with high power cpu 7940HS (35W CPU) and high dpi screen with 120Hz... Mine is low power cpu 7840u (15w) and low power screen (1200p 60hz) 400 nits on zero brightnes level... on old Ryzen 4800H with hight dpi screen and brightness on 30% power consuption is 2W AVG in idle...1/3 or 1/2... there is something wrong with this cpu

Sorry to hear about the idle power consumption. Even the test here shows the G9 with R5 6650U having 12 hours idle time without Wi-Fi while the G10's 7940HS is about 8 hours. If you have the same 51 Whr battery, your 6-7 W is right in line. I have an XPS 9510 with a power hungry i7-11800H w/FHD+ and I've even managed to get idle consumption under 1 W with Throttlestop and stopping/shutting down a lot of unnecessary Windows programs/services. What kills my battery life is Windows constantly restarting tasks/services like Windows Update, Windows Update Orchestrator, Edge updater, Mail, Skype, OneDrive, Geolocation services, telemetry even though I opted out, Background task optimizer, etc. Want to try to manually kill as many of these background tasks via Task Manager & Services tab that don't need to be running when not on Wi-Fi and post back how many less Watts you need/idle consumption? Pretty sure it will drop by 2-3 W which almost doubles your idle times.

From what I've seen so far, the 'Dragon' and 'Phoenix' APU seems to be underwhelming in battery performance.  I'm hoping AMD can iron out their chipset efficiency further as Intel's efficiency seems to improve in their gen-12 chips.  Their gen-13 chips aren't much different in design but they increased their efficiency cores further which may be translated to marginal performance gain only yet with better efficiency in comparison to gen-12 chips.

Maybe by next year they will solve the high consumption problem of this chip. I have a Ryzen 7840u in HP Elitebook 845 and the power consumption with low power display 60hz and Wifi and Bluetooth turned off is a whopping 6-7W in idle...

BTW: cpu is this laptop is configured to 15W TDP... big disappointment on battery life
