Meta announced that it had 'invented' a "new way to communicate with text" about 3 days ago (on July 5, 2023) - which has resulted in millions of users' worth of uptake already. However, as it turns out, the fact that many of them were able to register with their existing Instagram handle implies a potentially crucial drawback of the new social media option. The links between the two accounts means that one cannot be deleted without also dumping the other.
